Goodwill Industries of East Texas provides employment training programs to candidates in various community settings.
Career Training at Goodwill Industries of East Texas has highly qualified staff to provide skills training and vocational opportunities to persons with barriers to employment.
Qualified participants may receive one or more of the following services:
Career Assessments – We review your strengths and interests to help you identify which career path best fits you.
Vocational Evaluations – This is geared towards individuals with physical or mental disabilities. Also, an individual who has been in a life altering accident or illness and who can no longer work in their chosen field can be redirected to a new occupation.
Employment Services – We provide help with resume writing, interview skills, job searches, application assistance and job retention and community employment site training.
Job Coaching Services – Job Coaching is offered to individuals placed in employment who require additional assistance to learn new job tasks, ease the transition into employment, and assist in job retention.
Supported Employment Services – A more intensive, hands-on, place and train model used to assist in the placement of the more severely disabled into community-based employment. In this program, the Employment Specialist assists with the application prepares the individual for the interview including participating in the interview process if allowed, develops the job to the specific needs of the applicant, and provides on the job training.
Training Services – We offer work skills such as money management, how to arrange transportation, how to get along with others, how to remain focused on a job and many other skills to prepare you for community employment.
Work Adjustment Training (WAT) – This is a paid, minimum–wage training for up to 25 hours a week for individuals referred by the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS). In this program, the individual learns how to interact appropriately with coworkers and supervisors, how to remain focused on a job and to follow through on job tasks, manage time, and accept feedback in an acceptable manner. Specific job training in Janitorial/Custodial, Retail/Customer Services, Computer/Clerical, Cash Handling, Food Service, Shipping and Receiving and Leadership is also provided.
Vocational Adjustment Training (VAT) – An unpaid training, in a one-on-one or group setting, for 20 hours. Training is offered in one or more of the following topics: Transportation, Communication, Grooming, Goal Setting, Time Management and Problem Solving as well as various other areas.
Personal Social Adjustment Training (PSAT) – A more individualized training services program is Personal Social Adjustment Training. This is an unpaid training, where the focus is on the development of appropriate social skills. Topics in this training include but are not limited to, the following: Making good impressions, how to express yourself and being flexible. This training is offered in a one-on-one or group setting, with 5 hours of training offered a week.
